Death: at Piracicaba SP, Brazil 4.1.2009
Age: 72 y.o.
Fr. Augusto was born at Piracicaba, a very fertile land for vocations in our Congregation and for the Church, the land of the socalled ‘Tiroles’. The small towns of Sant’Anna and Olimpia are places which saw a relevant income of immigrants by the end of the 19th Century, especially some Italian families who came from the mountainous region of Trento. He entered the Congregation at Rio Claro in 1948, professed his vows in 1957 and was ordained a priest on the 25th January 1964.
He exercised his priestly ministry in many of our communities, especially as an assistant priest: Curitiba PR, Ituiutaba MG, Campinas SP, Rio de Janeiro RJ, Santo Antonio do Sudoeste PR, São Caetano do Sul SP. At Praia Grande SP he gave the best of his resources for 17 years and people enjoyed his fruitful pastoral work.
He took care particularly of the poorest and the marginal people whom he dearly loved and served. He established a company for the recycling of used cans disposed by the tourism industry which is much developed in the area. The income helped many poor families in the most neglected areas of the town.
He was loved and appreciated for his simple style of living, talking, praying, preaching and celebrating.
The last years of his life were spent in the community of Chácara do Vovô and at his relatives’ home at Piracicaba, fighting against a form of sickness that progressively paralysed his body.
