P. KEEFE FRANCIS
Dear Confreres,
With profound regret and sadness I announce the death of our confrere REV. FRANCIS L. KEEFE, C.S.S. Fr. Keefe died on April 3, 2003 at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts.
Fr. Keefe was born on August 4, 1925 in Newton, Massachusetts and entered the community on October 15, 1946. He professed vows on June 13, 1949 and was ordained to the priesthood on May 8, 1955 in Rome. His priestly ministry began in parochial ministry at Saint Francis Parish in Lynn, Massachusetts, and Sacred Heart Parish in Feeding Hills, Massachusetts. From 1960-1965 he was teacher and Prefect of the high school at Elm Bank in Wellesley, Massachusetts. In 1965 he entered military service with the United States Army serving as chaplain in Korea, Vietnam, Germany, France, Fort Stewart and Fort Gordon in Georgia, and Fort Myer, Virginia where he became Post Chaplain. He returned from this ministry in 1986 with rank of Colonel. He served as Director of the Espousal Retreat Center from 1988-1992, Superior of the Communities of Bertoni Hall and Saint Joseph Hall, and was Vicar Provincial from 1988-1994. He retired from full-time ministry in 2000.
The Wake Service will be held at Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street Waltham, Massachusetts on Monday, April 7, 2003, 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, 573 Washington Street, Newton, Massachusetts, at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in the community cemetery in Milford. In the spirit of charity the confreres are reminded to pray for Fr. Keefe according to our General Directories 35. 2,3.
May God grant fullness of life to our brother Francis and peace and consolation to his family and to those with whom he ministered.
