Immediately after his priestly ordination he was assigned to Ituiutaba (Minas Gerais) as teacher and bursar. He dedicated himself to this task with youthful enthusiasm, supported by an apparent flourishing health.
He loved his congregation as a second mother, testifying that he had received everything from her. He was very much devoted to Our Lady and to the Souls in Purgatory.
In September 1959 he was struck by nephritis but he insisted in wanting to conclude the school teaching year. When he was hospitalised in Campinas, it was discovered that the sickness was worse than he thought .
Death intervened almost suddenly by pulmonary embolism.
