This is to inform you that Father Vito F. Cannizzo, C.S.S, died on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Saint Joseph Hall, Waltham, Massachusetts. He was 90 years old.

Fr. Vito Cannizzo was born on June 13, 1915 in Brockton, Massachusetts, son of the late Vito and Marianna (Inguanti) Cannizzo. Following his education in the local public schools of Brockton, MA, Fr. Vito entered the Stigmatine Minor Seminary, Waltham, MA on September 18, 1933. He professed his first vows on September 9, 1935 and his final vows on September 9, 1938. He was ordained to the Priesthood by Richard Cardinal Cushing on June 11, 1943.

His priestly life was dedicated to parochial ministry in Springfield, West Springfield and Agawam (Massachusetts), White Plains (New York), Manassas (Virginia) and Northern Ontario, Canada. He was Novice Master from 1952-1953 and Director of the Stigmatine House of Studies, Washington, D.C. from 1956-1959. He maintained his zealous and diligent ministry until his retirement at Saint Joseph Hall, Waltham, MA on July 1, 1993.

The Wake Service for Father Vito will be held at The Espousal Center Chapel on Wednesday, March 8 from 9:00 until 10:15 A.M. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Milford, MA at 1:30 P.M.

Father Vito was known as a gentle, kind and loving person. He will be greatly missed by the members of his Province. May God grant fullness of life to Father Vito and consolation and peace to his family and loved ones.
