He was a missionary in China for some years, then vicar general of the diocese of Vigevano, rector of the Propaganda Fide for eight years and for ten years he was sent to USA as Apostolic Delegate. In America he came to know our confreres. In 1923 he was assigned our congregation as Cardinal Protector of it. He helped us to solve some difficult and vital problems, and to conclude the definitive approbation of our Constitutions, as well as the concession to our congregation of the residence of St Agatha dei Goti in Rome.
